Julia Plessing has been the scientific project manager at the Franco-German Future Work, which is funded by the BMBF and based at the RIFS, since April 2021. The Zukunftswerk was anchored in the Aachen Treaty in 2019 with the aim of supporting socio-ecological transformation processes in the Franco-German exchange of experience. It accompanies pioneer municipalities in both countries through research and dialogue and develops recommendations for action to national governments.
From 2006 to 2020, Julia worked in development cooperation, first at GIZ, then as an expert in gender analysis, evaluation and research in Southern Africa. She studied International Political Science in Bologna, Brighton, Paris and Amsterdam and completed her PhD (topic: Challenging Elite Assumptions on Citizen Participation against Development Realities on the Ground) at the University of Johannesburg in 2020.
