Dr. Martín Fonck ist wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter in der Forschungsgruppe Planetare Geopolitik und Geoengineering. Er hat am Rachel Carson Center for Environment and Society und am Institut für Sozial- und Kulturanthropologie der Universität München promoviert. Sein Hauptinteresse gilt der Untersuchung von Narrativen und Imaginären der Umweltpolitik im Übergang zur Nachhaltigkeit. Derzeit schreibt er über Technologien der Erschließung, basierend auf seinem Promotionsprojekt über die Zukunft der geothermischen Energie in den chilenischen Anden.

Innerhalb der Forschungsgruppe untersucht Martín, wie ökologische Prozesse in unerwartete Technologien zur Bewältigung der planetarischen Krise umgewandelt werden. Ihn interessiert die Analyse der Potenziale und unvorhergesehenen Folgen dieser Prozesse aus einer ethnografischen und historischen Perspektive.
